Unveiling the Truth: The Sacred Origins of Memorial Day and the Rebellion of Man-Made Holidays

Published on 26 May 2025 at 18:16

Memorial Day, cloaked in the trappings of American patriotism, is celebrated with parades, barbecues, and commercial fervor, yet its true origin lies buried beneath a veil of nationalistic deception. In Charleston, South Carolina, on May 1, 1865, nearly 10,000 freed Black men, women, and children—descendants of Yashar’al, the covenant people of YaHU’aH—performed a sacred act of remembrance, honoring 260 Union soldiers who died to shatter the "physical" chains of their enslavement.

This was no mere ceremony but a covenantal memorial, rooted in the Torah’s command to remember YaHU’aH’s deliverance. Yet, this righteous beginning has been stolen, replaced by a man-made holiday that esteems empire and profanes the Name of YaHU’aH. The atrocities of this erasure, and the ongoing oppression of Yashar’al, are a direct fulfillment of the curses of Debarim (Deuteronomy) 28, inflicted for turning from the covenant. This article unveils the sacred truth of Memorial Day’s origins, exposes the rebellion of man-made holidays, and calls all people—Yashar’al and Gentiles alike—to reject these traditions and return to YaHU’aH’s eternal Mo’edim (appointed times).

This Prophetic Exposé on the Forgotten Act of Freed Slaves, the Deuteronomy Curses, and the Divine Command for All to Reject Invented Traditions.

The Sacred Beginning: A Memorial Born in Deliverance.

The Righteous Act of Charleston, 1865.

In the aftermath of the American Civil War (1861–1865), Charleston, South Carolina, bore the scars of a nation torn apart. The Washington Racecourse, once a place of leisure, had been transformed into a Confederate prison camp, a site of unspeakable suffering. Over 260 Union soldiers, many of whom fought to abolish physical chains of slavery, perished there under brutal conditions, their bodies discarded in unmarked mass graves, stripped of dignity by their captors. But YaHU’aH, the AL’uah of justice, stirred the inward conviction of the freed Black community—His covenant people, Yashar’al—to honor these martyrs.

On May 1, 1865, nearly 10,000 freedmen, schoolchildren, ministers, and Union supporters gathered to transform this place of death into a sanctuary of remembrance. As documented by historian David W. Blight in *Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory*, their actions were a profound expression of gratitude and reverence:

  • Restoring Dignity: The freedmen exhumed the bodies of the 260 soldiers, giving each a proper burial to honor their sacrifice for liberation.
  • Erecting a Memorial: They built a fence around the site, crowned with an archway inscribed “Martyrs of the Race Course,” declaring the soldiers’ deaths as a testament to YaHU’aH’s deliverance.
  • Holding a Sacred Ceremony: The procession featured hymns, scripture readings, sermons, and the laying of flowers, fulfilling the Torah’s call to remember YaHU’aH’s mighty acts Debarim (Deuteronomy) 4:9-10.
  • Covenantal Unity: Black schoolchildren, ministers, and Union supporters stood as one, reflecting the unity of Yashar’al in Tehillim (Psalms) 133:1: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.”

This was no political event but a prophetic act, a covenantal response to YaHU’aH’s deliverance from the bondage of Mitsrayim (Egypt) in America. Blight affirms, “This was a black community’s public claiming of the war’s meaning” Blight, 2001, p. 70, a moment when Yashar’al honored the fallen as instruments of the Most High.

Scriptural Foundation

The freedmen’s memorial was a living fulfillment of YaHU’aH’s Torah:

  • Remembering Deliverance: Shemoth (Exodus) 13:3 commands, “Remember this day in which you went out of Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand YaHU’aH brought you out.”
  • Honoring the Fallen: Mishle (Proverbs) 14:28 declares that a multitude of people is a king’s glory, and the freedmen honored those who died for their freedom as vessels of YaHU’aH’s will.
  • Covenantal Gratitude: Tehillim (Psalms) 107:1-2 calls the redeemed to “give thanks to YaHU’aH, for He is good… Let the redeemed of YaHU’aH say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.”
  • Preserving Memory: Debarim (Deuteronomy) 32:7 urges, “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations,” commanding the covenant people to preserve the memory of YaHU’aH’s works.

This sacred act was not about exalting a nation but about giving glory to YaHU’aH, who “sets free the captives” Tehillim (Psalms) 146:7. The freedmen, as Yashar’al, stood in righteousness, their inward conviction guided by the Ruach Qodash (Set-Apart Breath).

The Atrocities of Erasure: A Fulfillment of the Deuteronomy Curses

The Theft of a Sacred Memory

The sacred memorial of May 1, 1865, was a beacon of righteousness, but its light was extinguished by a nation intent on burying its sins. In 1868, General John A. Logan declared May 30 as “Decoration Day,” honoring all Civil War dead, including Confederate soldiers who upheld the abomination of slavery Library of Congress, “Memorial Day History”. This act of reconciliation erased the freedmen’s covenantal remembrance, shifting the focus from liberation to a sanitized national unity. By the late 19th century, Decoration Day became Memorial Day, a federal holiday celebrating American military sacrifice across all wars, with Waterloo, New York, falsely declared its “birthplace” in 1966 National Park Service, “Waterloo”.

This erasure was a deliberate atrocity, rooted in the failure of Reconstruction and the rise of Jim Crow laws. The freedmen’s memorial, a prophetic act of Yashar’al, was buried to uphold a whitewashed narrative that honored empire over justice. As historian David W. Blight writes, “The nation chose reunion over justice” Blight, 2001, p. 98, suppressing the voices of Yashar’al to create a false unity. This theft violated YaHU’aH’s command:

“You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which those in the past have set, in your inheritance which you inherit in the land that YaHU’aH your AL’uah is giving you to possess.”

Debarim (Deuteronomy) 19:14

The Deuteronomy Curses and the Atrocities’ Aftermath

The erasure of the Charleston memorial and the ongoing oppression of Yashar’al are a direct fulfillment of the curses of Debarim (Deuteronomy) 28:15-68, pronounced upon the covenant people for breaking YaHU’aH’s Torah. The so-called “Blacks” in America, as descendants of Yashar’al, have borne these curses with undeniable clarity. The atrocities surrounding Memorial Day’s transformation—its theft from Yashar’al and its replacement with a holiday exalting empire—are inseparably linked to this prophetic judgment.

The curses include:

  • Enslavement and Exile: “YaHU’aH will bring you… to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other mighty ones—wood and stone” Debarim 28:36. The transatlantic slave trade, which forcibly removed over 12 million Africans to the Americas, with 1.8 million perishing in the Middle Passage Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database, fulfilled this curse for Yashar’al.
  • Byword and Oppression: “You shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all nations where YaHU’aH will drive you” Debarim 28:37. Terms like “Negro” and worse became bywords, marking Yashar’al as a despised people.
  • Family Destruction: “You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity” Debarim 28:41. Enslaved families were torn apart, with children sold away, erasing lineage and heritage.
  • Economic Exploitation: “The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower” Debarim 28:43. Systems like sharecropping, Jim Crow, and redlining kept Yashar’al economically oppressed.
  • Ongoing Oppression: “You shall be oppressed and plundered continually” Debarim 28:29. Post-emancipation, Yashar’al faced lynchings, voter suppression, and systemic racism, perpetuating their suffering.

The erasure of the Charleston memorial was a continuation of these curses. By stealing Yashar’al’s righteous act, the nation:

  • Erased Their Heritage: The memorial was a declaration of Yashar’al’s covenant identity, but its suppression mirrored the loss of their names, languages, and history during slavery Debarim 28:37.
  • Perpetuated Oppression: Jim Crow laws, lynchings, and segregation ensured Yashar’al remained under the curse of oppression, their contributions buried to uphold a false narrative Debarim 28:29.

Enforced Idolatry: The transformation of Memorial Day into a holiday glorifying empire forced Yashar’al to honor their oppressors, aligning with the curse of serving “other mighty ones” Debarim 28:36.

Yet, YaHU’aH promises restoration: “If you return to YaHU’aH your AL’uah… He will have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where YaHU’aH your AL’uah has scattered you” Debarim 30:1-3. The suffering of Yashar’al is a call to repentance and awakening, stirred by the Ruach Qodash.

The Divine Prohibition Against Man-Made Holidays

YaHU’aH’s Sovereign Command

The Torah is unequivocal: only YaHU’aH has the authority to appoint times of worship, mourning, or remembrance. In Debarim (Deuteronomy) 12:29-32, He declares:

“When YaHU’aH your AL’uah cuts off from before you the nations… take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them… Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.”

This command forbids man-made holidays, which replace YaHU’aH’s Mo’edim with traditions rooted in the ways of the nations. The Mo’edim—Passover, Shavuot, Sukkot, and others—are divinely ordained to commemorate YaHU’aH’s acts of deliverance Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23. Man-made holidays, like Memorial Day, exalt human institutions—nations, militaries, and empires—over the Most High, ensnaring both Yashar’al and Gentiles in rebellion.

The Rebellion of Invented Traditions

Memorial Day, in its modern form, is a counterfeit observance, demanding loyalty to the state rather than YaHU’aH. The prophet Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 10:2-4 warns:

“Do not learn the way of the nations… for the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree from the forest, the work of the hands of the craftsman… They decorate it with silver and gold.”

This principle applies to all human-invented traditions, including Memorial Day, which glorifies military might while ignoring the covenantal truth of the freedmen’s memorial. For Yashar’al, participating in such holidays compounds the curses of Debarim 28, as they are called to honor YaHU’aH alone. For Gentiles, these traditions are a snare, drawing them into idolatry and away from the truth of YaHU’aH’s Torah, which invites all to join His covenant Yashayahu (Isaiah) 56:6-7.

The Idolatry of Empire

When remembrance becomes idolatry, it profanes YaHU’aH’s Name. The freedmen’s 1865 ceremony honored the fallen as instruments of YaHU’aH’s deliverance, but today’s Memorial Day exalts the military machine as the source of freedom. This violates Husha (Hosea) 8:4:

“They have set up kings, but not by Me; they have made princes, and I did not acknowledge them… Their silver and their gold they made into idols for themselves—that they might be cut off.”

For Yashar’al, this idolatry perpetuates their oppression under the curses, as they honor the empires that enslaved them. For Gentiles, it blinds them to YaHU’aH’s truth, replacing His eternal commands with fleeting human traditions. The prophet Yashayahu (Isaiah) 42:8 declares:

“I am YaHU’aH, that is My Name; and My honor I will not give to another, nor My esteem to carved images.”

Man-made holidays, by exalting human systems, attempt to rob YaHU’aH of His honor, ensnaring all who participate.

The Inward Consequences

The rebellion of man-made holidays extends beyond Memorial Day. Holidays like Christmas and Easter, rooted in pagan traditions, further entangle both Yashar’al and Gentiles in idolatry. The Torah warns:

You shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them.”  Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 20:23

By replacing the Mo’edim with human inventions, these holidays:

  • Distort Truth: They obscure YaHU’aH’s acts of deliverance, replacing them with myths of human achievement.
  • Enslave the Inward Conviction: They demand loyalty to nations and traditions, stifling the Ruach Qodash’s call to righteousness.
  • Perpetuate Curses: For Yashar’al, they prolong the curses of Debarim 28; for Gentiles, they hinder their grafting into YaHU’aH’s covenant Romiyim (Romans) 11:17-24.

The prohibition against man-made holidays is not merely a law but a safeguard, protecting all people from the idolatry that separates them from YaHU’aH.

The Prophetic Pattern of Stolen Memory

Memorial Day, in its modern form, is a counterfeit observance, demanding loyalty to the state rather than YaHU’aH. The prophet Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 10:2-4 warns:

A Legacy of Erasure

The theft of Memorial Day’s origins is part of a broader pattern of suppressing YaHU’aH’s truth and the identity of His covenant people, Yashar’al. This pattern, foretold in scripture, affects both Yashar’al and Gentiles, who are called to join the covenant through obedience to YaHU’aH’s Torah. The erasure includes:

  • Obscuring YaHU’aH’s Name: The sacred Name has been replaced with generic titles like “God” or “Lord,” stripping away its power and identity Shemoth (Exodus) 3:14.
  • Hiding Yashar’al’s Identity: The covenant people have been scattered and their heritage erased, fulfilling Debarim 28:64, as seen in the transatlantic slave trade and the loss of Yashar’al’s names and history.
  • Whitewashing Yahusha: The Messiah’s identity as a Torah-keeping Hebrew has been replaced with a Gentile-centric portrayal, disconnecting Him from Yashar’al and the covenant Mattithyahu (Matthew) 5:17-18.
  • Replacing the Mo’edim: Divine appointed times have been supplanted by pagan-rooted holidays like Christmas and Easter, deceiving both Yashar’al and Gentiles Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 10:2-3.

This pattern is foretold in Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 17:4:

“And you, even yourself, shall let go of your inheritance which I gave you. And I shall make you serve your enemies in a land which you have not known. For you have kindled a fire in My displeasure which burns forever.”

The erasure of the Charleston memorial is a microcosm of this pattern, stripping Yashar’al of their righteous act and deceiving Gentiles into honoring empire over YaHU’aH.

The Inward Implications

This pattern of stolen memory is not merely historical but inner, designed to keep both Yashar’al and Gentiles in bondage to Babylon’s systems. The prophet Yashayahu (Isaiah) 5:20 warns:

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness.”

By erasing the truth of Memorial Day’s origins, the nation replaced the light of YaHU’aH’s deliverance with the darkness of empire, ensnaring all people in a lie. For Yashar’al, this perpetuates the curses of Debarim 28. For Gentiles, it blinds them to the invitation to join YaHU’aH’s covenant, as promised in Yashayahu (Isaiah) 56:6-7:

“Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to YaHU’aH, to serve Him… I will bring them to My set-apart mountain, and make them joyful in My house of petition.”

The Awakening of the Ruach Qodash

The resurgence of the Charleston event’s truth, through scholars like Blight and the awakening of communities seeking YaHU’aH’s truth, is a fulfillment of YaHU’aH’s promise. As Yoal (Joel) 2:28 declares:

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My breath on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.”

The Ruach Qodash is stirring both Yashar’al and Gentiles to reclaim the truth through YaHU’aH’s covenant, reject man-made traditions, and return to the Torah. This awakening is evident in the growing understanding of the freedmen’s memorial and the call for all to embrace the covenant.

A Call to Come Out of Babylon

The Worldwide Command

The Book of Revelation issues a clarion call to all people—Yashar’al and Gentiles alike:

“Come out of her, My people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”

Revelation 18:4

This command is not exclusive to Yashar’al but extends to Gentiles, who are invited to join the covenant through obedience to YaHU’aH’s Torah Romiyim (Romans) 11:17-24. Man-made holidays like Memorial Day are part of Babylon’s system, demanding loyalty to empire over YaHU’aH. For Yashar’al, participation perpetuates the curses of Debarim 28. For Gentiles, it hinders their grafting into the covenant, keeping them in spiritual bondage.

The Path to Restoration: YaHU’aH’s Mo’edim as the Antidote

YaHU’aH’s Mo’edim—His appointed times—are the divine remedy to the idolatry of man-made holidays like Memorial Day, which exalt empire over the Most High. Unlike human traditions that ensnare Yashar’al and Gentiles in inner bondage, Passover (Pesach), Shavuot (Pentecost), and Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) center on YaHU’aH’s acts of deliverance, Torah, and provision. These sacred times, outlined in Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23, offer restoration by uniting all people in worship of YaHU’aH, fulfilling His call to reject the nations’ ways Debarim (Deuteronomy) 12:29-32.

Passover (Pesach): Deliverance for All

Passover commemorates YaHU’aH’s deliverance of His people from Mitsrayim, as commanded in Wayyiqra 23:5. The blood of the lamb spared Yashar'al from judgment Shemoth (Exodus) 12:12-13, a prophetic act of redemption open to all who seek YaHU’aH. Unlike Memorial Day’s focus on military might, Passover honors YaHU’aH’s power, inviting Gentiles to join the covenant Shemoth 12:48. By keeping Pesach, Yashar’al and Gentiles reject idolatry, aligning their inward conviction with YaHU’aH’s truth.

Shavuot (Pentecost): Torah for All

Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah at Sinai, a guide for righteous living Wayyiqra 23:15-21. This Mo’ed, marking YaHU’aH’s covenant with Yashar’al, extends to Gentiles who embrace His commands Yashayahu (Isaiah) 56:6-7. In contrast to man-made holidays that obscure truth, Shavuot renews the Ruach Qodash’s guidance, empowering all to walk in Torah. It restores Yashar’al from the curses of Debarim 28 and draws Gentiles to YaHU’aH’s light.

Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles): Provision for All Nations

Sukkot remembers YaHU’aH’s provision in the wilderness, as outlined in Wayyiqra 23:33-43. By dwelling in booths, participants trust YaHU’aH’s care, a practice open to all nations Zekaryah (Zechariah) 14:16. Unlike Memorial Day, which glorifies empire, Sukkot exalts YaHU’aH’s faithfulness, uniting Yashar’al and Gentiles in worship. It heals the inward wounds of idolatry, pointing to a future where all honor the Most High.

A Unified Call

The Mo’edim are YaHU’aH’s path to restoration, replacing the darkness of man-made holidays with His light. They call Yashar’al to repent and Gentiles to join the covenant, fulfilling Yoal (Joel) 2:28: “I will pour out My breath on all flesh.” By keeping these appointed times, all people reject Babylon’s lies and embrace YaHU’aH’s eternal truth, restoring their place in His kingdom.

Honoring the Freedmen’s Legacy

To honor the freedmen’s 1865 memorial, Yashar’al and Gentiles must:

  • Proclaim the Truth: Declare the Charleston memorial as a covenantal act of YaHU’aH’s deliverance, rejecting its erasure.
  • Reject Idolatry: Refuse holidays that exalt empire, recognizing their conflict with the Torah.
  • Embrace the Covenant: For Yashar’al, this means repenting of disobedience and reclaiming their identity Debarim 30:1-3; for Gentiles, it means joining the covenant through obedience Yashayahu 56:6-7.
  • Live the Torah: Keep YaHU’aH’s Mo’edim, walking in righteousness as a testimony to His glory.

A Prophetic Awakening

On May 1, 1865, 10,000 freed souls in Charleston, as Yashar’al, showed the world true remembrance: a sacred act rooted in the Torah’s call to honor YaHU’aH’s deliverance. The theft of this memorial and the oppression of their descendants fulfill the curses of Debarim 28. The Torah forbids man-made holidays, for they replace divine truth with human rebellion. As Tehillim (Psalms) 119:105 declares: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Let Yashar’al and Gentiles walk in that light, rejecting Babylon’s traditions and embracing YaHU’aH’s Mo’edim. The Ruach Qodash is awakening the truth—heed the call to come out.

I just want to thank you for your obedience in sharing this powerful and deeply convicting word. The Ruach Ha’Qodash led me here, and I’m in awe of the confirmation this post brings. It echoes so much of what YAHUAH has been revealing to me personally—about stolen memory, covenant identity, the curses of Debarim 28, and the deception of man-made traditions. I recently had a prophetic dream that connected directly to this message—showing the counterfeit indoctrination of the empire and how the truth is hidden in plain sight.

This blog stirred my spirit, grieved my heart, and reignited my boldness to proclaim the truth. The restoration of the freedmen’s original memorial, the call to return to the Mo’edim, and the awakening of Yashar’al and the grafted-in remnant—it’s all so timely. May the Most High continue to use your ministry to awaken the called-out ones and bring honor to His Name.

YAHUAH bless you and keep you strong in this narrow path.
